My journey as a photographer began as a black and white, street film photographer and evolved to a digital chronicler of the details and color of nature, and then classic automobiles. From there I continued onto landscapes and interiors. I see the world around me, as if it was through the lens of a camera. Pictures leap out at me, crying to be taken. I’m attracted by colors, shapes, sheer beauty, and whimsy.
The challenge for me as a photographer is to accurately replicate the feeling I had when I took the photograph. Many of these pictures convey my perspective of turning the ordinary to the unique. Others simply convey the grandeur of my subject. My goal, as always, is to create a vision that attracts the audience’s attention repeatedly. I take this approach when photographing flowers, automobiles, landscapes, and objects that we see every day.
I've used a succession of four cameras to compile the portfolios shown here. I currently use a Canon 7D, having progressed there from a Lumix FZ28, Fuji ProS3, and Nikon 880. My work is printed on an Epson 3880 printer, with archival ultrachrome inks.
Highlights of my photography endeavors include a showing of my automotive work at the Saratoga Automobile Museum in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., four exhibits of my floral portraits at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, and winning the Best Photograph Award at the Oatlands Art Show in Leesburg, VA. Two of my photographs have been purchased for the Oatlands permanent collection. I've had a solo show at the Dumbarton Concert Gallery in Georgetown the last two years. I was also featured in a group Photography Show at the Ratner Museum in Bethesda this past July, 2011. Throughout the year, my work is shown at Del Ray Artisans.
I'm active in the local arts community. I participate in Del Ray Artisans in Alexandria, VA. and have curated several Photography Shows there (Del Ray Dozen). I've shown work and assisted in staging art shows at the Takoma Park, MD Community Center. I also help coordinate the Takoma Park Holiday Art Sale. I'm also on the Board of Directors of Art For the People, a local organization that promotes art activities in the community.
